Privacy policy

Draft for a fictional demo firm. A client copy has this page reviewed by the client's lawyer before launch; items in brackets are questions for that review.

This policy covers this website. Information you give us as a client, such as tax documents, is covered by your engagement letter and our client privacy notice.

What this website collects

  • Consult requests. Your name, email, optional phone number, business type, the service you asked about, a preferred call time and any note you add.
  • Article signups. Your email address and your consent to receive new articles.
  • Technical information. Our hosting provider records basic request data, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and block abuse. If a page has a JavaScript error, the error message and page address are recorded so we can fix it.

The forms never ask for Social Security numbers, account numbers or tax documents, and we ask you not to type them in. Documents go through the secure client portal after a consult.

Why we use it

To answer your consult request, to send the articles you signed up for, and to keep the site working and free of spam. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Who receives it

  • A form service that passes consult requests to our inbox.
  • An email newsletter service that sends new articles.
  • Our website host, which also stores a backup copy of each consult request.
  • A spam-check service that confirms a form was sent by a person.

[Lawyer to confirm: the named providers, and that each sits inside the firm's information security program under the FTC Safeguards Rule.]

How long it is kept

The backup copy of a consult request is deleted after 90 days. Article signups are kept until you unsubscribe. Each email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
